Inis – Rules of Play says:

Inis is a game deeply rooted in Celtic history and lore in which players win by being elected King of the Island (Inis). Players can try to achieve this fabled victory in  three different ways: Through Leadership, through Land or with Religion. Over the course of the game players can also earn deeds, which historically would be chanted by bards or engraved by master crafters, that give you a slight advantage over your opponents.

The main mechanics of the game centre around drafting action cards which allow you to move your clans around the territories, and although there are miniatures on the board do not be deceived into thinking Inis is a war game, there is obviously fighting between the clans but also times when peace may be much more beneficial!
