The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most iconic aircraft in aviation history, making this Airfix 1:48 Scale Spitfire Mk.IXe an essential kit for any serious modeller. History
Renowned for its adaptability, the basic Spitfire airframe was capable of accepting numerous upgrades throughout the Second World War. This flexibility allowed the fighter to remain in production and front-line service from the beginning to the end of the conflict.
By the summer of 1942, the Luftwaffe’s formidable Focke Wulf FW190 ‘Butcher Bird’ had gained air superiority, forcing an urgent response. The result was the Spitfire Mk.IX—a rapid but highly effective upgrade that proved one of the most successful “stop-gap” fighters in military aviation history.
