From a wargaming perspective, the greatest weakness of the British Army during the Crimean War was not its soldiers, but its leadership. With only a handful of notable exceptions, senior commanders were often inexperienced in modern warfare and frequently failed to exert meaningful control once battle was joined.
Orders were commonly unclear, delayed, or poorly communicated, leaving entire brigades immobilised while awaiting instructions. Personal rivalries, mutual distrust, and the tendency to promote officers based on social standing rather than battlefield competence only compounded these issues, with tragic consequences on the field.
This characterful metal set represents three of the most famous British commanders of the Crimean War, ideal for adding historical flavour and narrative depth to your Black Powder games.
This pack contains three metal miniatures:
- Lord Raglan
- Lord Campbell
- Captain Nolan
Rules for using these commanders in Black Powder can be found in the Into the Valley of Death supplement.
Sculpted by Mike Percy. Studio miniatures painted by Jamie Getliffe. Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
