The Thing: Human Miniatures Set: – Rules of Play says:
The Thing: Human Miniatures Expansion contains a set of eight highly detailed character miniatures to use in place of the characters standees you can find into the base game box. These miniatures represent the eight main characters seen in the movie, such as Macready or Doctor Blair. Using these character miniatures in place of the standees enriches the game, giving it a more scenic aspect and a stronger impact to the gameplay.
